*Cabinet member Minister Bezalel Smotrich in response to the words of MK Yoav Galant:* For a whole year Galant imagined a non-existent "alternative party" that would do the work for us and actually prevented us from taking responsibility for the distribution of humanitarian aid. When this non-existent factor did not come, Gallant allowed Hamas to take control of the humanitarian aid and maintain its rule in the Strip, thereby resulting in the continuation of the war, increasing its cost and the suffering of the abductees and their families. It is not the management of humanitarian aid that will lead to voids, nor a military government if it is required, but rather the fear of complete victory and the seizure of territory which is necessary for security. This is the fundamental disagreement that emerged between the concept that Gallant and the senior military leaders led in the cabinet and the concept that I pushed for all along the way. Gallant opposed in principle to occupying territory for the enemy, he led a line that sought to bring in the Palestinian Authority and stubbornly opposed the occupation of territory and holding it. This misconception kept Hamas in power, led to the prolongation of the war, eroded the fighting forces, and distanced us from eradicating Hamas and returning the abductees. This is what I struggled with in the cabinet discussions last year in relation to the conduct of the Gaza Strip and I welcome the beginning of a policy change accordingly. It is forbidden for the future of the security of the State of Israel to be based on the continuation of the concept in which the military system was based in the last decades.<\/div>\n\n
